Children’s Choir

The following are audio recordings of the repertoire St. Leo's Children's Choir will learn during the Fall 2024 semester. In an ideal world, you would listen to all these recordings at least once a day, five days a week. Especially at the beginning of the semester, try and have your children listen a couple of times a week.

Listening (and then practicing the music) is a vital step in ear training. Eventually, the children should be able to sing along with the recordings. Any practice notes from class will be added below the recordings to allow parents and kids to remember what was discussed during class.

Non Nobis Domine (Round)

William Byrd 16th century
Performed by Aubrey Gulick 21 November 2024
This is a new recording with just the two parts of the round. The piece is sung straight through without accompaniment the first time and is then sung in round two more times. You'll notice I did something a little different with the end. The first choir will end with the words "Non Nobis Domine," while the second choir will extend the word "gloriam" of "sed nomine tuo da gloriam" and resolve down to a C.

Veni Veni Emmanuel

For this piece, I've arranged things a little differently. I've recorded both the melody and the harmony separately. I then have a recording of the first two verses of the carol with both parts sung together. As you practice this piece, make sure to first learn to sing along with your part, and then learn to sing your part with the complete recording.
